  • about me

As a life photographer, I use photography as a way to expand, connect and create. I especially revel in covering important life experiences, including weddings, relationships, and achievements. For my clients and subjects, this means what we do is real, and fun.

I love to tell photo-stories from all over the world, which has lead to me to shoot destination weddings in India, Brazil, Israel, Mexico, Curacao, Costa Rica and the US. As well, I am committed to documenting humanitarian projects, such as important initiatives in Kenya, Tanzania, India and Rwanda. My photos from the HBO documentary of the first interracial prom in Charleston Mississippi, have been published internationally, including Seventeen Magazine, O Magazine, The National Post, and The Globe and Mail.

For me, photography of people is the capturing of their essence, and sharing back what I saw and felt. Wherever, and whomever they are. Everywhere and anywhere.

Love at first sight is alive and well.

I’m a believer in love at first sight.  It’s how I felt when I met Marianne + Luke.  An instant connection. We just “clicked”, you know? And I just knew, we were a match made in Heaven.

Actually, it was their match that made my love vibes flow.  I loved how down to earth they seemed, and how clearly in love they were. I thought the sound of their farm wedding with a ceremony in the forest, and just 80 guests, couldn’t be more perfect.  Turns out, everything that I first thought, has turned out to be true.

I don’t even need to explain it to you, you’ll see for yourself in this WEDDING SLIDESHOW.  You’ll be in love instantly.

BEFORE YOU WATCH!  Please note that A) This can only be watched on a computer.  No mobile devices.  B) Press PAUSE after you press play, to let the slideshow LOAD.  Otherwise, you’ll get frustrated at the buffering, and your love-vibes will be compromised.

Did I tell you, or did I tell you?

This wedding was beautifully orchestrated by Samantha Shannon of Best Is Yet To Be.  And the details, the pièce de résistance, were lovingly, carefully and creatively crafted by the bride herself.  She is responsible for the paper lanterns in the forest, the nameplates wrapped around mason-jar candles, and the “well-wishing tree”, to name a few.  She also included her friends and family by having them make their favourite desserts in lieu of a “cake”. It is these touches that made me swoon when I arrived, as her vision turned the already beautiful farm, into a majestic land that most people don’t even believe exists.  But it does.  And so does love at first sight.

Bring it!

If Katie + Dan’s wedding in Vail was any indication of how this 2013 season is going to be, I couldn’t be more excited.  This wedding had all the elements you could dream of — as a bride + groom, and as a photographer.  It had the natural beauty of Vail (Location! Location! Location!), a small gathering of 50 friends and family (who bonded the week before by skiing together), and most importantly, a gorgeous, friendly, fun and much loved couple, who are wildly in love and meant to be together.  Combine it all up, and you get this…

Beautiful flowers : Petals of Provence

Wedding planner : Carolyn Moorman

Fine Dining : Splendido at the Chateau

One Love

On Monday, Michelle + Bill got married in Jamaica.  I was there to document the stunning event.  And stunning it was.  There were so many special elements of the day that were uniquely created to reflect their love for each other.  I will get into that in another post.  For now, here’s a quick visual of the fabulousness I am talking about…

The secret’s finally out!!

It is not easy keeping really good secrets in.  Try holding a secret in for 1.5 years!!!  But no longer. It’s out.  I can breathe again.  Yes, now I can say it, and share it, and yell it from the rooftops…

Ok, none of those are EXACTLY true.  My conscience won’t really allow me to say that.

The truth of the matter is, I was lucky enough to be commissioned to take photos for this amazing lifestyle + health book, UnDiet – just published by McClelland & Stewart.  The book is finally out.  And it is a raging success.  And I’m so proud to have my photos in it, and to have been a part in it!

Lucky for me, I get the great pleasure of riding the coattails of its success, and revel in the after glow of all of Nutritionista Meghan Telpner‘s hard work.  I get smiley at the thought that I had something to do with helping Meghan produce the book of her dreams.  ”Working” with Meghan is a dream, and I adore her to bits.

I feel extremely proud to have been a part of this project. The photoshoot for the UnDiet, Eat Your Way to Vibrant Health, was a four-day marathon of love. With the rest of the amazing team, in the four days, we shot the food, the “How to” prep shots of the food, the photos of Meghan, a brunch with her friends, Meghan flirting with her then-boyfriend-now-husband Josh Gitalis, and all images that accompany the chapters in the book.  It was so much fun that in fact, I got withdrawal afterwards — the kind you get when you return home from an amazing vacation.

Here’s a mere glimpse of what I’m talking about:

Here are some behind the scenes photos of the love that went on in the kitchen last January:

Not only was this a special opportunity for me professionally, but it was a specially opportunity personally.  Meghan inspired me the moment I met her (as you can see HERE in my blog post from 5 years ago),  and this book is everything I would ever want to read in a health and lifestyle book.  It is fresh, funny, informative and fun-loving. Nothing pretentious, overwhelming and scary, or condescending.  Just a book by a fabulous girl, sharing the information and inspiration that she wanted from a book when she was looking.  The book is for you.  The UnDiet will not only make you want to live a more healthy and vibrant life, you will believe that you can.

And I don’t have to keep it in, anymore!  It’s gorgeous.  Get one for yourself.
